Marina Zigneli

Marina Zigneli is a PhD candidate at the School of Film, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with her doctoral research centered on the work of Maria Plyta, the first female Greek film director. In 2023, she was appointed as a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University in Nafplio. Her article “The Abortion Road Trip Film and the Pronatalist Discourse in the Post-Roe v. Wade US” (2023) was published in JAAAS: Journal of the Austrian Association for American Studies. She also works as a film critic, with publications in Greek and international outlets (A Rabbit’s Foot, Talking Shorts, photogénie), and has participated as a jury member or program selector at various international film festivals. In August 2025, she will take part in the Talents Press program of the Sarajevo Film Festival. She is currently a researcher in the three-year research project Plyta’s Unknown Cinema (2025–2028), funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.).
